In association with the company Level Eight I am investigating how they can make their game Edge of Combat more social and how this will affect their players. The new features to be explored is interacting with friends and participate in clans. The focus of the thesis is how the UI can look before the battle starts. This will result in a prototype made in Unity and the thesis report will be published on Diva.
Saving Lux is a runner game where the player plays as the character Luna. Luna is a pony princess in a galaxy far away and in order to save her galaxy the player needs to complete a number of running tracks. The tracks are full of obstacles and holes for the player to avoid. In order to complete a track the player must reach the end of the level and collect enough points through the gameplay. There is also power ups available for the player during the game for example invincibility, superspeed and doubled coins. The player needs to be observant since there are trick power ups as well that will try to prevent the player to reach the goal. The game is implemented in Unity.
Plot
The princess Luna have been away from her galaxy and home planet Lux. During her absence the evil Lilith have taken over the galaxy and imprisoned the inhabitants of each planet in the galaxy. It is now up to Luna to save the galaxy by traveling Liliths viscous roads and finally free the galaxy.
Grow was a project in collaboration with Umeå University and Umeå Hikikomori during the fall of 2016. Hikikomori is a organisation that works with adolescents who have isolated themselves at home for some time and who need help getting back into society.
The project's goal was to facilitate and support their work. During meetings with Hikikomori it emerged that the adolescents have communication difficulties, but also that they really enjoy playing all kinds of games. My group wanted to combine these two factors by making a communicative game. The concept was to play mini-games in which a task is to be solved. Every player handles various controls in the game and only by working together can they solve the task. In some games, each player will get different information which they need to cooperatively piece together to complete the game.
I mostly worked with gamedesign and documentation of the project.
During my first year of study I was selected to attend the DataTjej conference that are held every year. I thought the conference was awesome and I really wanted to contribute to this wonderful association. Between april 2015-2017 i was an elected board member of DataTjej. I worked as a business manager both years with two other girls.
At my first year we started to assign local business managers in Göteborg, Stockholm and Umeå. During my time in DataTjej I´ve been responsible for these girls. By supporting them in their work and of course make sure we fulfill our commitment to the members. I have also had some contact with various companies about the association and how DataTjej could cooperate with them. Some other projects I have been working with during these years are:
Frostbyte E-sportläger is an initiative to give the genre a chance to become an established sport with trainings, teammates, coaches and competitions. The project want to give adolescents a possibility to evolve together, learn, cooperate and compromise. To learn them perform better by combine exercise with good meals.
The initiative will start by arranging camps in different games for youngsters to evolve their skills together with other players.
When the camp business is established, the idea is also to develop leagues that young players can participate in.
This project is an ongoing project with Umeå University and the company North Kingdom in the course Produktutveckling i medieteknik enligt metoden design-build-test. North Kingdom is a software developing company. A common problem for these kinds of companies is that the employees spend a lot of time sitting by a desk or by a static working position. This can, in the long run, cause health problems. Therefore the goal for this project is to find a solution that could reduce the negative effects caused by sitting or a static working position.
The intended outcome of this project is a chrome plugin where the workers can add websites they usually visits when they drop their focus. When this activity is spotted the user will be be offered to play a game. The games are short and involve movement to release tensions in your body. We also produced an Android application with completed menus and communications with the server.
